Riyadh accused Iran of violating the nuclear deal by making baseless allegations

“Saudi Arabia’s position on the principle of the right of states to use nuclear energy peacefully,” Ibn Farhan said in a virtual speech at a UN General Assembly session on the occasion of the International Day for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, IRNA reported. Emphasizes without violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He added: “Apart from all international efforts to prevent countries from acquiring nuclear weapons, it is these types of weapons that cause instability in the world.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister added that the establishment of international peace and security is not achieved through the possession of weapons of mass destruction, but through cooperation between countries to achieve development and progress.

“Despite the international consensus and the desire of many moderate countries in the region to create a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, which is a long-term goal, but unfortunately Israel still refuses to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” bin Farhan said. Which is contrary to international resolutions.

He also claimed that Saudi Arabia supports international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in the short and long term, as well as to block the ability to turn the peaceful use of nuclear energy into military use.

Reza Najafi, Acting Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs and International Affairs, responded to the Saudi Foreign Minister’s baseless allegations about Iran’s nuclear program in a statement denying the need for transparency in Saudi nuclear activities under the IAEA. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stressed through the implementation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty that any international cooperation with Saudi Arabia should be suspended if the IAEA request is not met.
