Russia gives free wheat and oil products to Lebanon

According to the report of the International Economic Group of Fars News Agency, Alexander Rudakov, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon, announced that the Russian authorities have decided to supply free wheat and oil products to Lebanon.
In a statement to Sputnik, Rudakov said: In response to the request of the Lebanese government, the Russian government has made a decision to grant free wheat reserves and petroleum products to Lebanon, and efforts are currently being made to coordinate the technical delivery of these products to Lebanon.
He added: Russia is constantly looking for opportunities to support Lebanon in difficult situations, and we always welcome proposals related to launching fruitful projects for both sides.
With a 95% drop in the value of the Lebanese pound in the shadow of US sanctions, the World Bank classified this country’s economic crisis as one of the worst crises in the world since 1850.
The economic crisis in Lebanon started at the end of 2019, and at that time the exchange rate on the black market increased from 1,500 pounds (the official exchange rate) to 2,000 pounds. Since then, the Lebanese pound has continued to fall and more than 80% of Lebanese have fallen below the poverty line, while the unemployment rate has risen to around 30% and inflation has risen to 100%.
