Salman Rushdie’s assailant was charged with attempted second degree murder

According to Fars News Agency International Group, American media have reported that the assailant, Salman Rushdie, the renegade author of Ayat Shaitani, has been accused of attempting to commit second-degree murder.

On Saturday morning, the New York police announced the identity of the person who attacked the apostate writer Mohan and wounded him in the area of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH), as a 24-year-old man named “Hadi Matar”. It is said that Matar was a resident of the city of “Fairview” in the state of New Jersey.

NBC News reported that he was charged with attempted second-degree murder for attacking Salman Rushdie and second-degree assault for injuring the moderator of the meeting.

According to this report, Matar is being held without bail in a jail in “Shataqua” district in New York.

There is not much information about the condition of Salman Rushdie who is 75 years old. Reuters reported last night that he underwent surgery for at least one stab wound to the neck and one stab wound to the abdomen.

Salman Rushdie was attacked at 11 am on Friday (local time) on August 12, 2022 when he was going to give a speech at the Chautauqua Center in West New York.

After the publication of Mohan’s novel “Evil Verses” in 1367 AH, Salman Rushdie had provoked the anger of Muslims. For this reason, he had turned to a secret life with strict security conditions. After the publication of this book, Imam Khomeini (RA) issued a fatwa on his apostasy.

It is said that in the first months after the publication of Satanic Verses and the rise of Muslim objections to its anti-religious content, Salman Rushdie changed his residence more than fifteen times in one month.

The British government, which had prepared the ground for the publication of the Satanic Verses book, had taken the responsibility of protecting his life by spending a lot of money.

Salman Rushdie lived in America before this attack and was under protection for a long time.. Britain awarded Salman Rushdie an award in 2007, which brought protests by Muslims all over the world.

The Daily Mail newspaper claimed in its Friday evening news that Rushdi was stabbed 10 or 15 times, while another English-language media wrote that he was stabbed 10 to 15 times.

The New York police stated in their Saturday morning statement that Salman Rushdie was stabbed at least once in the neck and once in the abdomen.

“Ali Qasim Tohfe”, one of the local officials of “Yaroun” region in southern Lebanon, this afternoon (Saturday), in an interview with “Al-Nashreh” news site in Lebanon, said that “Hadi Matar” assaulted “Salman Rushdi”, the renegade and offensive writer. The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) is of Lebanese origin.

Lee Qasim Tohfa said about this: “The parents of Hadi Matar Jawan who yesterday, the writer [موهن] Salman stabbed Rushdi with a knife, they are from Yaron region; But Hadi was born in America and lived there and never came to Lebanon.”

Mayor Yaron added: “The people of that area follow the news through the media, and none of them know the young Hadi Matar.”
