Samsung wants to make a bezel-less OLED display

Samsung Display is the largest manufacturer of OLED displays for smartphones, and even Apple’s iPhones use its panels. Now this company wants to make a bezel-less OLED display to give us a new look for smartphones.

It seems that Samsung Display has presented its vision for the future of the smartphone market in a meeting. In a slide, this company has mentioned borderless displays in addition to displaying OLED panels with very small margins and a notch on top of it and the current generation of OLED panels with a hole and an oval cut.

Efforts to develop a bezel-less OLED display

On the same slide, Samsung announced a breakthrough in display technology. According to Samsung Display, these displays use the camera under the display, which of course have special technologies. These panels will have high light transmission (up to 50% more) and their pixel structure has been optimized.

Samsung’s borderless display has no borders, uses 3D layering technology and will have light control technology on the edge.

A few weeks ago it was reported that Apple has asked display suppliers LG Display and Samsung Display to develop bezel-less panels for the next generation of smartphones.

While we are several years away from these panels entering the market, Samsung has apparently started working on them. Therefore, we should probably expect the release of flagship phones with bezel-less displays in the coming years, and of course, this issue is not limited to one brand. At least the iPhones and of course the flagship phones of the Galaxy series will be equipped with these panels.

Samsung has been working on an under-display selfie camera for a while now, with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5, for example, using it. However, the quality of these types of cameras still has room for improvement, and maybe with the next generation of screens, their quality will no longer be different from normal cameras.
