The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which currently has 40% of the world’s population and accounts for 25% of the world’s gross domestic product.
The Shanghai Cooperation Council is also a regional security organization that includes Asian powers such as China and India.
Kozlov said that as part of the change in Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy, the country is seeking membership in international unions such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
According to this Russian official, negotiations about the possibility of Saudi Arabia becoming a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are actively underway, and the idea of the country’s membership in BRICS is also under consideration.
This Russian official added: In general, the desire of our Saudi partners to join multipolar international institutions, especially the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, has a good perspective.
