Senior US Army official: 200,000 people were killed and wounded in the war in Ukraine

According to IRNA’s report from Forbes, General Mark Milley, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, stated that it is estimated that around 200,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or wounded in various operations since the start of the war in March 5.

The Washington Post also wrote that Milli said these words at the Economic Club of New York on Thursday night.

He noted: “More than 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in this war, and the Ukrainian army has probably recorded a similar number.

Milli’s estimate of Russian casualties shows a significant increase over the 70,000 to 80,000 casualties predicted by the Pentagon in August.

There is no estimate of the number of civilians killed in the war, the Washington Post wrote.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported on November 2 that more than 6,400 civilians were killed in Ukraine.

The office also estimated that nearly 9,800 more civilians were injured in Ukraine as a result of the military conflict between the country and Russia.

Officials acknowledge that the figures could be “significantly higher” given the lack of news sources to monitor casualties in the heat of battle.

Meanwhile, Milli said that winter may be an opportunity for Russia and Ukraine to negotiate.

He said that in his opinion, the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Kherson may take weeks.

Agence France-Presse reported that Russia ordered its forces to withdraw from Kherson in southern Ukraine on Wednesday.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced this news in a televised meeting.

Kherson was the only provincial center that was controlled by Russian forces since the beginning of the offensive.
