The Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade is attending the visit of our President to Qatar to carry out the necessary consultations and plans for the development of trade cooperation with this Arab country.
According to reports شاتا, Iran and Qatar are connected on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf by a 268 km long sea route. Qatar, like most of Iran’s neighbors, has long historical and cultural commonalities with Iranians, but the level of trade relations between the two countries has been approximately minimal, except in recent years.
At present, the trade volume between Iran and Qatar is a small figure of about 400-300 million dollars, which has the capacity to increase by one billion dollars next year.
Qatar Capacities for Mutual Investments
Qatar has richer financial resources compared to the countries of the Persian Gulf, and one of the approaches that this country pursues is investing in the region and distant countries. In order to increase as soon as possible and achieve the goals set in the vision of the 2030 document, this Arab country has opened the way for investors in various industries and has created many frameworks to support foreign investors. In this regard, investment is a significant point and capacity to promote trade and economic relations to achieve development goals.
World Cup opportunity to expand trade
On the other hand, holding the FIFA World Cup provides another pure opportunity for our country to provide the consumer items needed by Qatar and increase cooperation in the field of tourism.
Qatar has limited production and manpower, and due to the challenge with the surrounding countries, it is moving towards supplying food items from outside the surrounding Arab countries, which has created a good opportunity for Iran to supply the consumer items needed by this country. In this regard, the Minister of Silence has taken the necessary procedures and measures for the air transfer of food items to Qatar and will be operational as soon as the required funding is provided by the Program and Budget Organization.
Also, cooperation in the field of industrial development for exports to third countries and the use of Qatar’s capacities to develop the value chain and transit are other related issues regarding the development of Iran-Qatar trade relations.
It is worth mentioning that the President’s visit to Qatar is aimed at participating in OPEC gas meetings and bilateral meetings between the two countries’ officials in order to develop industrial, trade, transit and tourism cooperation.
In addition to oil-related issues to be pursued by officials from the Ministry of Oil, the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade and the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts will also attend the meeting to discuss the development of trade and tourism cooperation.
