Shooting at a church in America; One killed and 2 injured

A shooting at a church in the US state of Colorado has left one dead and two injured, according to the Fars News Agency International Group.

According to the news network website «NTD » Police say they knew at least one of the victims who shot and wounded a woman and injured two others at a church in Aurora, Colorado, on Friday night. “It was not just an accidental shooting inside the church,” a police spokesman told a news conference.

The shooting took place at the Church of the Assumption at around 8pm local time on Friday night. According to tweets from the Aurora Police Department, the church was hosting a ceremony attended by about 15 to 20 people when the shooting took place.

A 36-year-old woman, a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old man were injured when officers arrived at the church, police said.

According to officials, the woman died at the scene and two injured men were taken to hospital. Another person who was not shot was also taken to hospital for medical reasons, police said.

US police officers commit murder themselves

Police said the suspect had fled before officers arrived, and investigators interviewed witnesses early Saturday morning and inspected the area for video surveillance.

“The facts and circumstances that led to the shooting are being clarified,” police said.

The results of an American media investigation also show that in the last 5 years, US police officers have killed more than 400 American citizens who did not have firearms or cold steel and were not suspected of committing violent crimes during traffic stops and inspections.

The New York Times notes, however, that only five of these police officers have been convicted of such murders. In many cases, the cars were stopped due to very common violations, such as passing a red light.

Another finding of the New York Times is that the rate of such homicides was higher for black drivers due to their population in the community. In addition, the offenses for which black drivers have been stopped have been more minor and less serious.

“In each of these cases, the officers have stated that they did so out of fear for their lives,” the American newspaper reported, citing similar justifications for the killings. “In those cases, the prosecutors also considered the killing of unarmed drivers to be legally justifiable.”

Last month, The Lancet reported that more than half of all homicides committed by US police went unreported. Research at the Institute of Health Assessment at the University of Washington School of Medicine found that in the United States, between 1980 and 2018, more than 55 percent of police violence deaths, a total of more than 17,000, were either incorrectly classified or unreported.
