Sofia Coppola creates the life of Elvis Presley

In a new interview, he talked about how he had to get creative to make the Priscilla Presley biopic based on Elvis and Me on a relatively low budget of $20 million.

He said: I see all these men getting hundreds of millions of dollars and then I fight for a small part of it. I think only the business part of culture remains. It’s frustrating, but I always fight to get what I want and I’m happy to make my films independently and find people who believe in them.

While the endeavor can be very frustrating, the filmmaker admits there’s also an upside: He doesn’t have to deal with as much feedback from the higher-ups because they’re not heavily invested in his projects.

The “Priscilla” producer continued: “There’s a challenge and a freedom in putting things together, because if you have a big budget, there’s a lot of input from studio executives, and I could never make a movie like that.” Therefore, I have this freedom. At the same time you have to be really alert and it was really hard, but I had the best team.

He and his team reused the archive and were able to create many outfits from previous outfits. Coppola attributes this success to the directors of his creative department, who took everything they could and carried it forward. Due to financial constraints, Priscilla was shot in 30 days digitally, because they had to do things very quickly.

Another problem they faced was the use of Elvis Presley’s music in the project. The director of “Marie Antoinette” initially wanted to have 3 songs of the late singer in his film, but he knew that there was a possibility that he would not be able to get the rights. So, he turned to another old song instead.

“For me, it’s very important to have a woman’s voice at the end,” Coppola said of Parton’s “I’ll Always Love You.”

In the movie “Priscilla” Kiley Spani and Jacob Alverdi are acting.
