Speaker of the US House of Representatives: Putin is ready to attack Ukraine

According to Fars News Agency’s International Service, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives said on Sunday night, Tehran time, that he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to attack Ukraine, but expressed hope that the sanctions imposed by the United States will lift him.
“I believe he is ready for an attack,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told ABC News, according to the Business Insider website. “If Russia had not been threatened with sanctions, Putin’s attack would have been decisive.”
Pelosi said he understood that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky wanted to keep the people calm and that his economy would not be harmed.
The speaker of the US House of Representatives said that the US strategy in this regard is “diplomacy” and “deterrence”, adding that US President Joe Biden has made it very clear that if Russia attacks Ukraine, a lot of money must be paid.
Pelosi said the US allies in NATO have agreed on the severity of the sanctions and all of them fully support the sanctions. “Mothers in Russia do not want their children to go to war,” Pelosi concluded. “Putin must know that war is not the solution.”
The Pentagon said it could not confirm reports of Russia intending to invade Ukraine on Wednesday. A Pentagon spokesman said Sunday evening that there was no indication that things were going well or that Putin intended to reduce tensions, and that there was no reason to be optimistic.
“We believe that there is a possibility of preventing a war in Ukraine, and we welcome the action of our European allies for diplomatic engagement with Putin,” he said.
“US forces will not fight in Ukraine, and we have deployed some US forces to reassure our allies and prevent any possible attack,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
“We can not confirm reports that Russia is planning to invade Ukraine next Wednesday,” he said.
The US website Politico quoted officials as saying that the US president had told Western leaders by telephone that Russia would attack Ukraine by February 17th.
Although Russia has repeatedly stated that it does not intend to invade Ukraine, the United States and European countries have stepped up their military preparations for what they say is a possible military move by Moscow. Some of these countries have sent troops and military equipment to Ukraine under the same pretext
