Stop making Instagram app for children

The Instagram Kids app is said to require parental permission to join, and provides age-appropriate, ad-free content, but lawmakers and activists have called on Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, to address safety concerns. Stop this app.

“We will not stop putting pressure on Facebook until they cancel the project forever,” said Josh Galin, executive director of Fairplay Active Group, according to ISNA.

Instagram stated in a blog post that building the “Instagram Kids” app is the right thing to do, but it will stop the project and continue to build on parental monitoring tools.

“The reality is that children are now online, and we believe that building age-appropriate experiences designed for them is better for parents than it is today,” the company said.

According to Reuters, the Wall Street Journal published a report earlier this month, citing statistics showing that Instagram has a detrimental effect on teens, especially teenage girls, and that Facebook has made minimal efforts to address the issue. In response, Facebook said the report was incorrect.
