Strengthening international cinema strategies at the meeting of Iranian and Iraqi film directors

A joint meeting between Mohammad Khazaei, head of the Cinema Organization, and Ahmad Musa, head of Iraqi Cinema Affairs, took place at the Cinema Organization to discuss the expansion of cultural and cinematic interactions and cooperation between the two countries.
Referring to the characteristics of Iranian cinema, human content and its universal values, Mohammad Khazaei said: “Cinema is one of the important windows in understanding the culture of a society and a nation and is one of the effective tools in public diplomacy in the world.” The privileged position of Iranian cinema after the Islamic Revolution in the world and the region is remarkable and this capacity can be used to strengthen broad relations between nations.

He added that the two countries can cooperate in the field of education, screening and presentation of cinematic works: “Considering our existing capacities, we are ready to facilitate the conditions for the presence of filmmakers in festivals, holding film weeks of the two countries, and setting up a week.” We are announcing Muharram films and other cultural events, and we will cooperate through the capacity of the Iranian Youth Cinema Association to send specialized professors and trainers and provide educational services in Iraq.
According to him, facilitating communication and paving the way for the participation of specialized forces of the two countries in joint film projects, exchanging technical and specialized knowledge and sending professors and filmmakers to Iraq, providing conditions for joint production projects based on regional concepts and issues. Strategic and strengthening of holding cinematic events were other aspects of the agreements reached in this joint meeting.
Ahmad Musa, Head of Iraqi Cinema Affairs, while appreciating the cooperation of the Cinema Organization in this meeting, referring to the historical and civilizational depth of the two nations of Iraq and Iran, said: “Cultural and cinematic cooperation and creating more opportunities for joint work in the field of cinema.” It is in the interest of both countries, and due to the cultural and religious commonalities of the two countries, there is a lot of potential for cooperation.
He added: “Iranian cinema has a very good position in the region and the world in terms of content and technology, and holding weeks of mutual film between the two countries, holding film festivals, joint productions and the presence of Iranian film professors in Iraq will lead to the growth and development of Iraqi cinema.”
Ahmad Musa, while expressing hope for holding the Iranian Film Week in Iraq in the near future, noted: “Following the agreements reached between the Ministers of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran and the Iraqi Minister of Culture, Iran has decided to provide educational services and send specialists to Iraq.” N.
Referring to the lack of children’s cinema in Iraq, he added: “We know that Iranian cinema is strong and successful due to technical and cultural support in the field of cinema, especially children’s cinema, and the moral, educational and cultural characteristics of this type of cinema are very important.”
He continued: “Therefore, we desperately need this kind of cinema for children and youth, and we will be happy to have examples of these films in Iraq and to establish an office in this field.”
The head of Iraqi cinema affairs also demanded that a week of Iraqi films be held in Iran in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Culture and Communication and the Iranian Cinema Organization.
It is worth mentioning that Asghar Farsi, Deputy Director of Management Development and Resources of the Cinema Organization, Seyed Sadegh Mousavi, Director General of the Festival and International Cooperation Office, and Mohammad Kiani, Director General of Cultural Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Culture and Communication were also present at this joint meeting.
