Subsidence, a cancer in the heart of the earth/ the need to address this phenomenon in the seventh development plan

According to the reporter of Moj news agency, despite the continuous warnings of experts about Land subsidence And the culmination of this phenomenon in different plains of our country, no measures have been taken to curb it, and although the management of aquifers has been mentioned in the 7th development plan, the name of “subsidence” has not been specifically mentioned in the plan.
Failure to take serious action in the field of curbing subsidence, while this phenomenon has existed in many countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, and Italy, and some countries, including China and Japan, have very good experiences in curbing it by reducing the pressure on aquifers. .
Iran is one of the record holders of land subsidence in the world, and according to the statistics of the Research Center of the Islamic Council, annual subsidence records of 40 cm in Kerman, 32 cm in Alborz, 15 cm in the metropolis of Isfahan, 24 cm in the south of Tehran, etc. .
According to the head of the country’s crisis management organization, 602 plains of the country are subject to subsidence, which shows the depth of this disaster in the country.
Indiscriminate use of underground aquifers has played the biggest role in increasing the rate of subsidence, and actually curbing subsidence depends on the recovery of underground aquifers. Investigations by the Geological Organization show that since 1369, the amount of groundwater withdrawal has increased from the amount of water that feeds these sources, and the deficit of water resources in 2018, when the population reached about 80 million people, was a negative balance of 134 billion cubic meters. it is arrived.
Experts believe that curbing subsidence should not be sought except by reducing the pressure on aquifers, and measures such as reducing water consumption and increasing agricultural efficiency, determining the harvesting ceiling for authorized wells, sealing unauthorized wells, and in the next stages of watershed operations and injecting water into aquifers through wells Attraction is the key to victory over the cancer that has engulfed Iran.
Considering the adverse effects of this phenomenon on the country, it seems that subsidence can be considered as one of the main environmental threats of the country, which, in addition to the environment, threatens the country in all political, social, economic, health and hygiene fields, and therefore It is necessary to pay special attention to this important issue in the 7th development plan, along with the chapter on managing the country’s water resources.
According to Reza Shahbazi, Director General of the Environmental Hazards and Engineering Office of the Geological Organization, there is a very limited time left to control the subsidence of the earth, and it is symbolic that this time bomb, which was hidden deep in the soil for years, has reached the surface of the earth and has irreparable consequences for the country.
