Sullivan: The ball is in Iran’s court! Mehr News Agency Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr News Agency, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, referring to the virtual meeting between the US and Russian presidents, claimed that Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin had a good conversation on the issue of Iran.

“It was a fruitful conversation,” he added. Russia and the United States worked well together, even in the difficult conditions of 2014-2015, to reach a comprehensive joint agreement. This is an area where Washington and Moscow can continue to consult closely to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.

This claim comes at a time when Iran has repeatedly stated that it pursues peaceful goals in its nuclear program and has always fulfilled its obligations under the NPT and safeguards agreements.

“Iran, armed with nuclear weapons, is a bigger threat in cooperation with its proxy forces, and we are determined to prevent this, while diplomacy is the best way forward,” the White House national security adviser said in another of his claims.

Sullivan added: “The more serious Iran is at the negotiating table, the more unity there will be between the P5 + 1.” Therefore, the ball is in Iran’s court to show whether it wants to be serious or not.

This claim comes at a time when the United States has withdrawn from the UN Security Council and is no longer a member of the nuclear deal, and during the Vienna talks, Iran’s party is the P5 + 1 (Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany).

Sullivan’s statement comes as Iran is seriously entering the seventh round of the Vienna talks and has made proposals to show that it wants to reach a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible. On the other hand, Tehran expects the Western side to prove the seriousness of the negotiations by its technical and practical reaction and by avoiding generalizations and spreading the atmosphere of accusation and blame.
