Syria seeks to connect to the banking network “Mir” of Russia

According to the report of the International Economy Group of Fars News Agency, quoted by Tass, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad said: In the shadow of Western sanctions policies, Damascus considers it important to connect to the Russian “Mir” payment system.

Haddad said: The idea of creating a Mir payment system in Russia was formed in 2015, and the first step was to focus on creating an independent payment system inside Russia. Especially since the access of a number of Russian banks to Western payment systems was cut off at that time.

The Syrian ambassador continued: This country will definitely show interest in joining any banking system that replaces the western systems; Because these sanctions against Syria have been imposed by the West.

Haddad added: The demand for alternative payment systems is increasing in many countries of the world that have been exposed to Western pressures and sanctions.

He continued in his speech: The world economy has witnessed multilateral changes after the start of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the imposition of US and Western sanctions against Moscow. The ambassador of Syria in Russia emphasized: the same issue of sanctions has made Moscow move towards banking systems instead of western payment systems.
