WhatsApp is still hoping for the Microsoft App Store, and according to reports released by Meta (formerly Facebook), it is working on a new project to release a new version of WhatsApp Desktop for Windows 11 and Windows 10.

This program will be presented in the form of a universal Windows application platform, and according to the published screenshots, it can be said that it also uses a modern user interface.

It might be interesting to note that WhatsApp was one of only a handful of applications that continued to provide updates even after Microsoft officially announced the end of support for Windows 10 Mobile.

Unfortunately, the previous version of WhatsApp was based on the Silverlight framework, which, unlike universal applications, could not run on all Windows 10 platforms. It’s been three years since then and we’ve learned that WhatsApp wants to develop its desktop version for Windows based on the Universal platform.

The current version of WhatsApp Desktop, which is available in the Microsoft Store, is largely based on the web-based version of this popular messenger and uses the Electron framework. The app must first connect to WhatsApp servers in order to provide users with a web-based version of the user interface, which is why users need to scan a QR code for authentication.

Once the new WhatsApp universal app is released, Windows users will no longer need to connect to the web version to access their chats.

The current desktop application does not provide a good user experience and is slower than the Android and iOS versions. In the new version, this problem will be solved. Meta also apparently wants to use the XAML UI language to bring the new program the mood of other Windows 11 or 10 programs to the user.

Users who have already used the desktop version of WhatsApp must have noticed that they are limited to sending text messages and are not very free to make voice calls. Fortunately, it is said that in the new version we will see better support for voice and video calls.

WhatsApp seems to have a close relationship with Microsoft in the development of this program; Because from the published screenshots, it can be seen that the Windows Ink plugin is also going to be added to this program. This way users will be able to write notes on the images and then send them directly to the left.

The universal WhatsApp app will support backups, out-of-app notifications, chat personalization options, and more.
