Tehran subsidence is super-critical / Consumption of more than 85% of groundwater

Mehdi Zare, a professor at the Seismological Research Institute, told Moj News Agency about the cause of landslides: “When surface water runs out during droughts and we go to groundwater for water supply, they will no longer be irreversible, and one of the consequences of this It is abusive, it is the subsidence of the earth.
He continued by stating that only about 20% of the groundwater consumed will be compensable: “Unfortunately, in our country, more than 85% of the volume of groundwater is exploited, which can not be compensated by rainfall.”
According to the professor of the Seismological Research Institute, the drilling of wells for water supply is filled with groundwater, which causes the alluvium to settle, and after this subsidence, the groundwater level goes down to such an extent that the ground subsides.

The extent of subsidence in Tehran province is extremely critical
The professor of the Seismological Research Institute called the situation in Tehran province regarding the extent of subsidence extremely critical and said: This is due to the large population and very high density that live in Tehran.
Zare pointed to the consequences of subsidence in Shahriar plain in the southwest of Tehran and south of Ghods, Mallard and Tehransar and said: the problem فرونشستها It becomes critical when large traction cracks form in the areas where peak subsidence occurs and lead to road changes.
Asked whether the consequences of subsidence could be compensated, Zare said: “The damage caused by groundwater abstraction is practically irreparable, but the first and most important thing that can be done is to prevent it from escalating.”
