The ability to display the air pollution index came to Google Maps

The ability to display the air pollution index was added to the iOS and Android version of the Google Map application. Of course, this feature is currently activated in a limited way.

With the addition of the new feature of showing the air pollution index to the iOS and Android platforms of Google Map, this program is able to inform the user about the level of pollution and the quality of the surrounding air. With these details at your disposal, you can make more informed decisions about leaving home. What will be added to Google Maps as the Air Pollution Index display will include AQI, or Air Quality Index, numbers, along with tips for outdoor activities, the latest information updates, and links to more information.

This data will be obtained from trusted government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States. Google Maps will also transmit air quality information through a low-cost sensor network called PurpleAir, which can give you a hyperlocal view of conditions. To add the air pollution indicator feature, you need to tap the button in the upper right corner of the phone screen, then select the Air Quality option in the map details section.

Information sent from PurpleAir will also be available through displays and speakers of Google’s Nest service.

Also, as the fire season approaches in the United States, a feature in this field has also been defined for Google Maps. Thanks to the company’s partnership with the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), this feature allows you to view the details of active fires in your area. For large fires, you can also search for the term “Wildfire near me” to find out the relevant details along with information about the air quality index.
