The American writers’ strike put many projects on hold

As the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike enters its fourth week with no sign of a resolution, the impact of the strike is being felt across America.

Charso Press: According to Screen, “Thunderbolts” of Marvel Studios is the latest important project that has been stopped due to the strike of American writers. The superhero-themed film starring Florence Pugh, Harrison Ford and Steven Yeon, which was supposed to begin production in mid-June in Atlanta, has been delayed. The film’s release date was set for the summer of next year.

Filming on JJ Abrams’ thriller Duster for HBO Max (now renamed Max) has also been halted in New Mexico until the writers’ strike ends.

In California, filming on the second season of Jeff Bridges’ FX drama The Old Man has also been suspended until the strike ends.

The filming of “Blade Runner 2099” by Amazon Studio in Northern Ireland has also been postponed among important projects. This series was being prepared based on Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” film series. As the name suggests, this series takes place 50 years after the movie “Blade Runner 2049” by Denis Villeneuve.

Meanwhile, the California Film Commission (CFC) has confirmed that half of the 46 projects slated to begin filming in the next six months under the state’s tax incentive program have applied for necessary waivers to delay their production start dates. Now keep the project.

While the commission’s next session to allocate incentives for TV series filming was scheduled for June 5, it is likely to be postponed until the strike is resolved.

Also in California, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has canceled the Television Academy Honors Ceremony, which was scheduled for May 31. The ceremony was canceled after discussions with the Writers Guild of America and out of respect for those affected by these events, the academy said.

The Television Academy Awards are given to television projects that “foster social change.” Amazon for “As We See It” and Netflix for “Hair” were among the recipients of this award.

Meanwhile, Writers Guild protest routes across America have witnessed the presence of actors and other representatives of the film industry. In New York, Colin Farrell, whose “Penguin” series for Max is among the projects that have been temporarily shut down by the strike, was among the faces at a Writers Guild gathering.

In Los Angeles, Stephanie Allen, the president of the Producers Guild of America (PGA), along with Meredith Steam, the president of the Writers Guild, attended the strike held in solidarity with the striking writers.

The writers’ strike could expand and escalate as the June 5 deadline approaches. On this date, SAG-AFTRA members will vote on whether to authorize a strike before beginning their union contract negotiations with the Producers Guild. The Actors Guild’s current contract expires on June 30.

The negotiations between the producers’ union and the Directors Guild of America, whose contract also expires on June 30, are currently being conducted without media coverage.

The writers’ strike includes 11,500 writers who write for Hollywood and TV shows, and other industry allies. This strike started on May 2.
