The art of gilding became a world record

According to the reporter of Arya Heritage, the art of gilding was registered globally today, Wednesday, December 15, 1402, on the third day of the 18th meeting of the Inter-State Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The joint art of gilding with the countries of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan has been sent to UNESCO for world registration.

Gilding is derived from the root zahab (meaning gold). Gilding is also called gold plating. The reason for this name is the use of gold solutions (other colors and shiny solutions) to design gilding motifs. But the word gilding can also be considered as the meaning of adornment. Because the main purpose of the art of gilding is to decorate the pages of books, calligraphy pieces and the borders of paintings, especially the pages of the Holy Quran.

This art was popular before Islam and was called goldsmithing at that time. After the advent of Islam, it was used to decorate the Quran in Iran. The calligraphy and gilding of Qurans of the early Islamic centuries is similar to the decorative paintings of the Sassanid period.

Gilding has different styles. Among the styles of gilding, we can mention the Seljuq (Manuvian) style, the Ilkhani style, the Timurid style, the Shiraz style, the Safavid style, and the Qajar style. In the Safavid era, Isfahan became the center of the art of gilding and calligraphy. In this center, they created beautiful changes in this art by using gold, azure, red, green, yellow and white colors. Its tools include a brush, a ruler, a pen and a bead.

From Iran, 3 cases for global registration will be reviewed at the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which includes Iftar and its socio-cultural ceremonies (jointly with Azerbaijan, Turkey and Uzbekistan), the art of gilding (jointly with Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan). And it is the celebration of the century (shared with Tajikistan).

The 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage is being held from 13 to 18 December 1402 in Kasan, Republic of Botswana.
