According to the online economy report, citing Khabar Online, based on the data published by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), China’s car market has experienced the sale of 9.533 million new cars from January to June 2023. This trend shows an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period in 2022. 2,093,000 were electric vehicles (EVs), while 996,000 were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), collectively known as new energy vehicles (NEVs). NEVs accounted for 32.4% of total sales.

Regarding the market share, BYD appeared as the best-selling car brand in China by selling 1,098,409 cars and occupying 11.52% of the market share. BYD, in particular, saw an almost even distribution of sales between EVs and PHEVs. Despite this, BYD is still the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the Chinese market. Maintaining its leadership position, BYD sold 524,184 EVs, representing a significant market share of 25.04 percent.

After BYD, Volkswagen won the second position by selling 982,290 cars and having a market share of 10.30%. Toyota ranked third by selling 797,605 cars and took 8.37% of the market share. Honda ranked fourth with the sale of 527,484 vehicles and a market share of 5.53%, while Changan completed the top five ranks with the sale of 467,194 vehicles and a market share of 4.90%. It is worth noting that sales of traditional ICE brands such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda and Nissan have declined while the overall large market has grown slightly.

Among the electric cars, BYD won the first place, but after that Tesla came in second place with the sale of 294,105 cars and took the market share of 14.05%. GAC Aion ranked third with the sale of 211,228 cars and took a 10.09% market share. Wuling and Changan took the fourth and fifth places as the best-selling pure electric brands.

This choice of the citizens and the popularity of BYD has caused this car to have a significant share of the Chinese market, and in terms of the popularity of BYD for Chinese citizens, they are on the same level as Quick in Iran. It should be mentioned that in the past, Quick car was the best-selling car in Iran.
