The circulation of old banknotes forced Herat market to close

According to the correspondent of Fars News Agency’s Afghanistan site, the Herat money changers union announced that this market has been closed due to preventing the circulation of old banknotes.
Gholam Sarwar Sohrabi, head of the Khorasan Bazaar Union, said: “It has been decided to close this market due to the prevention of the circulation of old banknotes in the western market of Afghanistan.”
He added: until the problem of old banknotes is solved, the market will be closed for customers.
At the same time as the criticism of the increase of old money in the market, the Central Bank of Afghanistan has published the characteristics of unusable money in the Afghan market.
In an announcement, this bank announced that except for banknotes whose appearance has completely changed or parts of them have been lost due to unforeseen events, other currencies are considered safe and can be used in transactions.
Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban, said that efforts are underway to modernize paper money, but there is enough money in the market and it will not be overprinted.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has warned about the liquidity crisis in Afghanistan and has announced that a support package of 32 million dollars is being sent to this country to avoid economic collapse.
