The claim of the American media about the possibility of a prisoner exchange between Washington and Tehran

According to the report of the Fars International News Agency, an American media, quoting four officials of this country, reported that the administration of “Joe Biden” is conducting indirect negotiations with Iran regarding the exchange of prisoners.

The website of the NBC news network, reporting this news, quoting four informed sources, claimed that these negotiations are being conducted with the mediation of Qatar and England.

The sources cited by NBC said that the negotiations have progressed, but reaching a final agreement is still in the air of uncertainty.

According to this report, this effort is being made by the White House while the negotiations in Vienna to lift the sanctions against Iran have been interrupted and the Biden government has imposed new sanctions against Iran by continuing the policy of maximum pressure.

According to NBC, the two sides are considering a previously discussed formula that would include a prisoner exchange in exchange for the release of $7 billion of Iranian assets in South Korean banks.

The American base wrote that according to this formula, Iran will be allowed to use the mentioned funds to buy food, medicine and other items that are not subject to sanctions.

The mentioned sources said that during the talks, Iranian and American diplomats discussed possible mechanisms for the transfer of Iran’s blocked assets, and a third country such as Qatar is supposed to monitor their transfer process.

A source claimed that during the meeting of Qatar’s foreign minister with his Iranian counterpart, which took place in the past few days, the Qatari delegation “conveyed messages from the United States to the Iranian side, which included points regarding the exchange of prisoners.”
