The judge of the 6th Iranian Cinema Research Award of the Year, Bayan, emphasizing the importance of the connection between cinema and the university, said: the connection between the cinema industry and academic societies is severed, and there is no accurate needs assessment in the field of cinema research.
Charso Press: Dr. Ramtin Shahbazi, university professor, writer, film critic and judge of the 6th Iranian Cinema Research Award stated: Research is not important for Iranian cinematographers and Iranian cinematographers do not care about research. Research is important for those who study cinema and theoretical topics of cinema. The cinematographer makes his own film, and of course, a mechanism must be prepared by the responsible institutions so that the research reaches the hands of the cinematographers in their own language.
He added: Research has an academic language and may not be accepted by cinematographers. Our cinematographers do not pay much attention to research, they do their own work and research is useful for the academic community and policy-making institutions.
Shahbazi said: “Iranian Cinema of the Year Research Award has been held for several years by the efforts of the Cinema Organization; They assess the needs of the involved places and the researches are organized and announced accordingly.
Emphasizing the importance of the relationship between cinema and the university, this university professor said: the connection between the cinema industry and academic societies is broken, and there is no accurate needs assessment in the field of cinema research. We need to be more careful in this section. Research work should not be abandoned and we should not limit it. We must specify the paths and facilitate the researcher’s work.
He added: If the research is not interested in the subject, the result will not be favorable, and on the other hand, if the research is not practical, the result will not be obtained. We need sponsoring institutions to support researchers and the program should go in the direction where the researches are practical.
Referring to the applicability of the Iranian Cinema Year Research Award, Shahbazi said: The topics of the researches received by the award secretariat were very diverse and we had from theoretical topics in research and research results to practical topics. Theoretical issues can also be turned into practical cases in the research department. The fact that researches must be practical takes us away from the theoretical view and vice versa.
He continued: Theoretical and practical issues are two wings of the same bird. This year we saw practical and theoretical works and the quality of the researches was varied. The Iranian Cinema Year Research Award has been able to bring together various researches and researchers, these researches have been seen and did not remain in the archives of researchers. Every year, the number of participants and the quality of the works have increased, which shows that the Iranian Cinema of the Year research award has not been unaffected.
