The continued growth of the high-end phone market in 2023; Apple first, Samsung second

Smartphone manufacturers are facing increased sales of their high-end products in 2023. In the ranking of the best-selling brands of high-end phones, Apple is the first, Samsung is the second, and Huawei is the third.

According to the company’s new report Counterpoint ResearchIn 2022, Apple’s share in the global mobile market was 75% and Samsung’s 16%. But in 2023, Apple’s share reached 71% and Samsung’s 17%. The report, whose data from the fourth quarter of 2023 is still preliminary, says that Huawei challenged the Cupertinos with the Mate 60 series and took some of their market share.

The growth of the high-end phone market continued in 2023

Counterpoint Research claims that sales of high-end phones that cost more than $600 will triple in 2023 compared to 2016 and reach 24%. The company’s analyst believes that people are willing to pay more for their phones these days because they feel they can use their devices longer.

Moreover, it seems that owning new flagship phones has become a part of many consumers’ personalities these days, and they tend to quickly replace their older phones with new high-end phones.

On the other hand, the introduction of ultra-premium phones, which have a price of more than 1000 dollars, has made this part of the market bigger and the sales of these products have grown by 33%.

These statistics can help manufacturers of premium phones to differentiate these devices from competitors by adding special features to their products. For example, Samsung, which will soon unveil the Galaxy S24 series, is likely to focus its marketing efforts on its AI capabilities.

Ultimately, Counterpoint Research says the premium phone market will likely continue to grow faster than the overall mobile market. As a result, the competition in this field is becoming hotter than before.
