The dolls that did not touch the golden butterfly

The collection of puppet films of Iranian cinema in the previous 34 editions of the International Festival of Children and Youth Films did not have significant success, and in the 35th edition, the void of puppet films is also felt.

Charso Press: In the 15th edition of the festival, the judges, in addition to awarding the Golden Butterfly for the best film, also awarded four diplomas of honor to four films, one of which went to the puppet film “Yike Bode Yike Bode” by Iraj Tahmasab.

Most of the famous puppet movies such as Red Riding Hood and Auntie, Doll Thief, Peas, City of Rats, Elo Elo Man Jojowam, Gulnar, etc. have left the children and teenagers film festival empty handed.

To these few awards, we should also add appreciation to the actors involved in the movie “Little Red Riding Hood and Grandmother’s Baby” at the 26th Festival of Children and Youth Films. In part of the closing ceremony of the 26th festival in 2011, with the presence of Iraj Tahmasab, Hamid Jabali, Hamid Modaresi, Donya Fenizadeh and Marzieh Mahboob, the creators of the Red Hat characters were honored.

Apart from these few cases, most of the famous puppet movies like Little Red Riding Hood and Cousin, The Doll Thief, Peas, City of Mice, Elo Elo Man Jojovam, Patal and Small Dreams, Gulnar, The Singing Cat, Tarzan and Tarzan and They have left the children and teenagers film festival empty-handed.

Cinematic dolls are artistic capitals born with the taste and creativity of several generations of artists. When we walk in the cinema museum, we are transported to the happy world of childhood memories by looking at each doll. “Patal” was a doll that lived inside the sphere of geography and made impossible dreams come true for children. The cousin was a kind friend who used to buy hot bread for the red hat and Mr. Majri and gave them hope for the future. The singing cat helped Hosni and Goldone to find their parents. When Gelnar wanted to escape from the bears, he resorted to the plan of “Aunt Frog” and implemented the doll’s advice.

Dolls that are more animal than human

In most puppet movies of Iranian cinema, puppets represent animal characters, such as dogs, cats, chickens, etc. In the “Singing Cat” movie, the roles of all cats are given to puppets. In the movie “City of Rats”, both the rats are puppets and the cat (don’t name him) who is going to attack the city.

In the movie “One was one, one was not” there are a series of animals from chickens, cows, crows to donkeys, cats, roosters and lambs in the form of puppets. Gulnar uses the dolls of Aunt Frog and Bear, and in “Tarzan and Tarzan” all the dolls represent animals.

In the movie “Ello Ello Man Jojowam”, Jojo and Mio dolls play the role of the two characters of the film, the chicken and the cat. The movie “Magic Journey” is one of the exceptions in which there is no mention of animal puppets. Of course, this work cannot be considered a completely puppet movie. Because only two robot dolls and a punishing man are present in its courtroom sequence. Where Akbar Abdi, (the father of the story) is about to be punished for misbehaving with his son, these two dolls remind him of his father’s physical punishments.

In the movie “Nakhodi” we are faced with a doll that has useful advice for the hero of the story. A puppet theater director (played by Saber Abar) who is unsuccessful in performing his shows gets smaller and smaller with each failure and humiliation, but meeting Nakhodi in the land of stories changes his life.

Fat and thin, Sanjad, Majid Jan Delbandam and Zee Zee Golu could have a movie version due to their popularity. But this did not happen for various reasonsThere is no mention of animal puppets in the “Red Riding Hood” series. Although Red Riding Hood had tentacles and was an ant in the beginning, he gradually acquired a human personality. Like humans, he goes to school, falls in love and tries to go on TV and be seen.

The most successful and popular dolls have been those that have a specific coloring and have found an independent identity in terms of personality. Lovers of “Red Riding Hood” know him with his mischief and stubbornness. He is a boy who mispronounces words, jumps in the middle of other people’s words, sometimes lies, but in the end he is good-hearted and kind.

The dolls in the movie “City of Rats” each had a specific moral characteristic. As his name suggests, “Kapel” was a glutton and fat. “Sleepy” was lazy and liked to sleep a lot. “Orange” was sensitive and quick-tempered and was constantly angry.

These dolls have been repeated and continued in the form of movies and series. But other dolls that lacked specific moral and behavioral characteristics were soon forgotten. For example, the movie “Doll Thief” tells the story of dolls that are not very influential in the story. Actions and reactions are mostly done by children and adults, and dolls become important as objects to be stolen.

television background; The condition of the popularity of dolls

One of the criteria that can determine the fate of puppet works is their television background. The dolls “Little Red Riding Hood and Cousin” and “City of Rats” first appeared on TV and then went to the cinema. Audiences who have become familiar with a doll on a daily or weekly basis for several years, are eager to follow her fate in the cinema.

Kolah Qarmzi first appeared in a TV series called Saqaq and Shanehbehsar Dana in 1360 and then with a new look in the program Jagjaghe and Farfareh. 13 years after the birth of this doll, the movie “Little Red Riding Hood and Cousin” was released in cinemas. The popularity of “Little Red Riding Hood” was such that the production of its trilogy continued in the eighties and nineties.

The puppets from the movie “City of Rats” also played a role in the TV series “School of Rats”. After a few years (1364), the mice who were narrating the memories of a noisy school in the TV frame went to the city and had many adventures there. 29 years later, in 2013, the children who were in love with these cute mice went to the cinema again and watched the second season of the movie titled City of Mice 2.

Many other dolls can be named that remained in the TV frame and did not go to the cinema. Fat and thin, Sanjad, Majid Jan Delbandam and Zee Zee Golu Considering their popularity, they could have a movie version. But this did not happen for various reasons.

Children’s attachment to dolls from home to cinema

The relationship between children and dolls is a warm and romantic one. It is impossible for a child not to have a doll in his list of toys. These wooden, plastic and fabric objects sometimes replace friends and siblings of children who do not have them.

Usually, girls talk and play with their dolls more than boys. Maybe because they have a motherly feeling towards these inanimate objects and imagine and live in the distant future in their dreams. Most boys love dolls as much as their future children. These two groups talk to their dolls and whisper their feelings and emotions into the doll’s ears.

Children’s attachment to dolls sometimes becomes so much that it becomes a mental illness. In this situation, the child’s parents should consult a psychologist and ask him how to reduce this dependency.

Dolls have entered the world of children’s cinema from the list of little toys. Children identify with puppets as much as they love their own dolls. Dolls that talk to children in the world of movies and series are sometimes more popular than human characters. Child actors grow up over time and are no longer able to play their previous roles. But dolls always have a fixed shape and image and retain their sweetness and charm over time.
