According to Mehr reporter, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, attended the closing ceremony of the 6th Iranian Cinema Research Award and discussed with them some of the issues and questions raised in these cinema days.
Regarding his recent talk about the increase and prosperity of Iranian cinema audiences during these years, he said: Fortunately, we are witnessing good events in the field of cinema. In fact, it can be said that Iranian cinema is experiencing a unique year. This space can be well seen in terms of the number of audience, the amount of sales and the infrastructure works that have been done in the field of cinema. Iranian cinema is on the verge of reaching the number of 900 movie theaters, which can include positive points in this difficult economic situation. In addition, we can now say that in the last one or two years, more than 300 movie theaters have been added to the country’s cinema complex, which I believe is a source of pride for all cinema people. Our point of view is a development point of view, and we definitely disagree with the points of view that seek to limit cinema and artistic work. At the same time, we ask cinema people to support this current situation. In any case, we are not in a perfect state, but I hope that all the sympathizers of the cinema industry will be together and contribute to the excellence of cinema with good humor and flexibility.
In response to another question regarding the quality control of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance for the entry of artists into the cinema, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said: The Cinema Organization supervises the issue of the entry of producers and directors, and if there is a problem in this regard, my colleagues in this group should Be responsible for the issues raised. We used to have a producer certification system that had problems, but now these problems have been solved and if there is an incorrect situation in this field, it should be corrected as soon as possible.
In response to another question regarding the strategies for attracting audiences in Iranian cinema, considering the gap that has arisen between the audience of the home television network and the mainstream of Iranian cinema, Esmaili clarified: Of course, I believe that Iranian cinema is in a prosperous period in terms of audience. and I think that the number of cinema audience will exceed 30 million. But in this framework, we should also pay attention to the tastes of the new generation and at the same time pay special attention to the development of tastes. We should not be captured by imported models because Iranian culture is a strong and powerful culture that has made us a cultural superpower. This should lead to the creation of a diverse production system that can provide answers to the questions raised by these research programs.
In response to another question about the dispute over the supervision of the home television network and the latest measures taken in this regard, he explained: Currently, the supervision of home television series is the responsibility of the Broadcasting Organization and the supervision of movies on the television network. The home is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. In relation to this discussion, a working group has been formed in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, which Mr. Mir Bagheri has taken responsibility for, and the work of compiling regulations is underway so that we can have maximum interaction between different departments. Know that we presented the proposed system and we believe that the cinema organization is the main guardian of cinema in the country and its position must be preserved because the cinema regulation system is the responsibility of the cinema organization.
