The first purchase of Zoom / Netglix paid $ 50 million for a movie

Netflix bought a movie starring Emily Blunt for $ 50 million.
Theater News Base: In the first big purchase of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Netflix bought the international distribution rights to Emily Blunt’s “Pain Dealers” in a deal worth more than $ 50 million.
David Yates is behind the project, which has been described as something like “Greg Wall Street” and “The Great Depression.” Blunt is set to play someone who has not even graduated from high school and finds work with a declining drug startup at a mall in Central Florida.
Her character, Lisa, succeeds the company with her intelligence and courage, but soon finds herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences.
Wells Tower wrote the screenplay for the project, which is being produced by Lawrence Gray through Gary Meter Productions in collaboration with Yates and Ivan Walcott through Wichwood Pictures. Filming is scheduled to begin in August.
The contract for the purchase of “Pain Dealers” has been closed while Netflix has recently faced significant financial problems.
The company said in its latest quarterly earnings report that it lost 200,000 subscribers, the first time in a decade. The company also said it expects to lose another two million subscribers in the second quarter. In this regard, Netflix cut about 150 of its employees, mostly in the United States, earlier this week.
This is the biggest Cannes film contract to date, which has been largely silent so far.
