The first scientific conference of Turkmen needlework has ended in Golestan

The Deputy of Handicrafts and Traditional Arts of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Golestan said in the closing ceremony of this national event: In the field of traditional embroidery, we have nearly four thousand artists in the province, and about three thousand of them work in the field of Turkmen needlework.

Maryam Haji Ebrahimi, referring to the activities of artists in 25 fields of needlework in Golestan, added: Traditional and textile embroidery is considered the main field of art in all the cities of the province.

He reminded: “Tangli” village of the border town of Gonbadkavos was registered as a Turkmen needlework village in 2019, and in 1401, on the fourth day of the seventeenth meeting of the International Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the city of Rabat, Morocco, the art of Turkmen needlework (Turkmen embroidery) was listed as the 20th element. The intangible cultural heritage of our country shared with Turkmenistan was registered in the world.

Golestan’s Deputy of Handicrafts and Traditional Arts stated: The most activity of Turkmen needlework is related to the Turkmen-inhabited cities of the province, centered on Gonbadkavus, Aqqola and Gamishan.

Turkmen needlework is a functional, decorative and mental art that is created by artists on silk or woolen fabrics with natural silk threads, cotton or synthetic threads such as acrylic.

The art of Turkmen needlework is more popular in North Khorasan and Golestan provinces, especially in Gonbadkavus, Bandar Turkmen, Aqqola, Kalaleh, Gamishan, Maravetepe and the surrounding villages, and it is also a well-known art in the country.
