The great papyrus of the Book of the Dead was found in Egypt?

According to the online economy report, citing Hamshahri Online, Ancient Origins wrote that this cemetery in the Tuna Al-Jabal region in central Egypt dates back to the New Kingdom period (around 1550 to 1070 BC) and includes mummies, coffins, talismans and numerous statues. which are designed to serve the deceased.

According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the papyrus from the “Book of the Dead” found in the cemetery is about 43 to 49 feet (13 to 15 meters) long. Archaeologists of this ministry have been excavating this site since 2017 and recently found this cemetery.

“The Book of the Dead” is a modern name for various texts that had various purposes, including helping the dead in the underworld. Copies of excerpts from the Book of the Dead were sometimes buried with the dead.

The statement contains little information about the newly discovered copy of the Book of the Dead, and it is unclear exactly which texts it contains or with whom it was buried. No photos of the Book of the Dead papyrus have been released, and members of the team that discovered it did not respond to requests for comment.

Researchers who were not involved in the excavation said the find could be important. “It is very rare to find a copy of the ‘Book of the Dead’ in the tomb where it was originally buried,” said Foy Scalf, an Egyptologist and head of research archives at the University of Chicago. Without pictures it is difficult to be more clear about this and it is customary to wait for the official release of the pictures for accurate evaluations.

“If the discovered papyrus is this long and well-preserved, it is definitely an extraordinary and interesting discovery,” said Lara Weiss, managing director of the Romer and Plyseus Museum in Germany, who has studied the Book of the Dead extensively.
