The harsh criticism of a theater artist: the art of performing has become a circus!

Actor, director and theater writer Mohammad Hadi Atai, in an interview with the reporter of Tawana Journalist Club about the show facts about dogs and cats, which will be shown on the stage of the Shahr theater complex, said: 10 years ago, this show was written by Mohammad Manem and in The student festival directed by Ebrahim Azizi was shown. Referring to the disappointing state of the theater, he pointed out that the government does not support the theater in any way. Also, the supervision and evaluation council is inevitably responsible for the content supervision rather than thinking about the qualitative evaluation of the works.

Referring to the problems faced by theater groups in getting a performance hall, he said: Getting private halls depends on the budget of the group, and however much the actors spend, the hall will be provided to them, but the government halls that do not need a lot of budget are suffering a lot. The team becomes a theater.

This director added: In a society where there are economic problems in people’s lives, no one thinks of cultural work and theater, and this art is more considered a luxury entertainment. While according to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a good theater is equal to 10 pulpits, but unfortunately, this statement is not given the attention it deserves.

Atai stated: Theater art is moving towards becoming a circus. That is, we use well-known actors for the theater in order to attract people to sell theater tickets with their help. This is the worst possible situation for the theater. In the past, with strong stories, people came to the theater, but now because of a certain actor!

He continued: Every year, all the goods become more expensive, but we see a decrease in the cultural budget. This is the wrong view of the statesmen on the cultural sector that is not paid attention to. A few years ago, the Supreme Leader said that luxurious shows should be avoided and Iranian shows should be produced, but there was still no support for this. The government should identify the artists who are working and support them.

This writer and director of the theater said, referring to the biggest problem of the theater: when there is no proper monitoring and evaluation of the works, it causes the audience to run away from the theater and the quality of the works decreases. It should be seen what has happened to the art of theater that these days foreign plays are more popular than domestic ones.

Regarding the role of advertising in the sales of a theater, he added: The theater cannot advertise anywhere. The Broadcasting Organization does not support, and the advertising billboards of the municipality have high prices that are beyond their means. Their only chance is the virtual world, which is also busy with other events, and practically, propaganda in this area was also closed.

Atai emphasized: We support the theater in words, but not in practice. This art is stuck in a cemetery that has no compassion. I don’t see a happy day for the theater with the upcoming order.

He noted: Theater these days is more like a tragedy. Once there were theater students and artists around the city theater, but these days they are businessmen! When you pass by the city theater, you see everything except cultural events!
