The increase in the price of tomato paste and tuna was denied

“Factories have reduced the production of tomato paste in the market for the past few days, and this has been done by imitating other goods in order to increase prices,” Qasem Ali Hassani told IRNA.

He said that the increase in the price of tomato paste is being investigated by the Consumers and Producers Protection Organization, noting that the supply of this product has been limited and bankers are continuing to buy from producers to meet market needs.

Hassani added: “Despite the fact that it is the tomato production season at the moment, the market needs are less covered by the producers, while before this supply, the tomatoes were even forced to be supplied sometimes with edible oil.”

“Tomato paste is produced twice as much as annual consumption,” he said. “Iran is one of the largest exporters of tomato paste in the Middle East, especially to Russia, Iraq and Afghanistan, because the country’s products are organic, cheap, high quality and high concentration.”

The secretary of the Food Bankers ‘Union, emphasizing that tomato paste is produced more than needed, said: “Considering the increase in workers’ wages and transportation, and even the price of tomatoes, there is a need to change and correct the price.”

According to Hassani, before this tomato paste did not have a special place in the bankers’ sales basket, but the decrease in supply has made the market of this product hot.

Regarding tuna, he said: “In general, this product has faced a sales slump due to its high price and will not be noticed by customers.”

According to IRNA, in recent days, due to the reform of the allocation of preferential currency, rumors have been spread about the increase in the prices of basic goods, including tomato paste and tuna.
