The iPhone 16 Pro Max is likely to be introduced with a super telephoto camera
A source familiar with the market says that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will probably be the first smartphone to come with a super-telephoto periscope camera and a significant increase in optical zoom.
Digital Chat Station account on China’s Weibo social network who usually provides detailed information about Apple’s plans, has hinted in a new post that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely come with a telephoto camera with an impressive optical zoom.
The term “super” or “ultra” telephoto camera is usually applied to cameras with a focal length of more than 300mm, which can greatly magnify distant subjects. The telephoto camera of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models has a focal length of 77 mm. Therefore, the focal length of more than 300 mm in iPhone 16 Pro Max is considered a huge increase.

Super telephoto cameras are often used for sports, animal and wildlife photography. These cameras usually make very nice backgrounds. Also, these cameras are used for portrait photography, provided that there is enough distance between the subject and the photographer.
According to reports published by market sources, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max will apparently be equipped with a telephoto camera with super optical zoom.
The Chinese Weibo account, which published this information, claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be equipped with a 12% larger camera sensor with a size of 1.14 inches. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max currently have a 1.28-inch sensor, and the size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max sensor is not expected to increase this year. A larger sensor could improve the dynamic range and background blur of the iPhone’s main camera. It can also significantly improve low-light photography capabilities. In fact, the larger surface area of the sensor can capture more light with the same shutter speed and aperture.
