The municipality building in the vicinity of Karimkhan Zand historical citadel, after years of being under the control of the city administration of Shiraz, will be turned into a municipal museum and a place for people to visit with the approval of the Shiraz Islamic Council.

For more than 77 years, it has been located in the beating heart of the city and next to a memorable street, and people still associate its name with the identity of this city. Its doors and walls speak of the originality of a civilized city, and the ancient and glorious history of Shiraz can be seen brick by brick.

Establishment of Shiraz municipality building

The municipality building is considered one of the oldest urban elements of Shiraz, which has been the location of Shiraz city administration since its construction. The establishment of municipality in Shiraz was not much later than in other parts of the country, and its building was established in 1286 during the governorship of Mehdi Qoli Hedayat (nicknamed Fakhr al-Sultaneh). This building was called the municipality at that time.

The beginning of the discussion of turning this building into a museum

Although the municipal building about half a century ago, when the city of Shiraz did not expand significantly, it could serve the citizens with the same space and the small number of forces that worked there, but with the expansion of the urban space and also the development of urban management manpower, this building is no longer a necessary use. did not have the resources to provide services to all the departments of the municipality to the people. After the formation of regional municipalities in Shiraz, the issue of moving the municipality to a new location and turning the municipality building into a museum was raised, and this discussion started with the construction of the new building of the Shiraz Municipality, which was started in June 2015 and during the tenure of Alireza Pak Fitrat as the mayor of Shiraz Kalang. She became a woman and gained strength.

Construction of a new building for the municipality

On Monday, June 15, 1396, Alireza Pak Fitrat, the current representative of the people of Shiraz and Zarghan in the Islamic Council, who was the head of the Shiraz Municipality at that time, announced to the reporters that this The project follows the characteristics of the construction of an office building in design and construction, and this building is being built on the edge of the traffic-heavy area of ​​Shiraz, and our special view in line with this project is to change to suitable green space and car parking space. He also stated: The municipality building will also become a museum after the completion of the new building, so that in the central point of Shiraz, next to the Zandiye complex and part of the city’s central square plan, that is, the Artillery Square revitalization plan, it will play an influential role in the development of tourism and the introduction of a part of it. from the history of Shiraz.

Establishment of part of the municipal units in the new building

After the completion of the construction of the new central building of the Shiraz Municipality, which is located in the central area of ​​the city, at the intersection of the coastal streets and the Gefzi Street, and on the south side of the dry river, part of the municipal units settled in this place, but the mayor of Shiraz and his team still They were based in the municipality building until the conversion of the current building of the Shiraz Municipality into a municipal museum was examined on Sunday 28 December 1400 as the last agenda of the Shiraz Municipal Parliament, and based on this resolution, the Shiraz Municipality was required to take action within one year from the date of this resolution. slow
On the 4th of January 1400, the plan to transform the current building of Shiraz Municipality into a municipal museum was approved in the 31st session of the public hall of Shiraz City Council, with the presence of members of the council. The central building should be converted into a museum and the opening of the first municipal museum in the current building at the latest one year after the approval, but during this period, no action was taken by the mayor of Shiraz to settle in this place.

The mayor is settled in the new building

It has been a few weeks since the plan to transfer the central municipality and parts of Shiraz city administration to the new building, which is known as the “Keshti” building, has been brought up again, and the conversion of the old municipality building into the municipal museum has been seriously put on the agenda.
Mohammad Hassan Asadi, the mayor of Shiraz metropolis, on 22nd of Azarr 1401, in the cultural, tourism and third shrine of Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.), regarding the establishment of Shiraz Municipality Museum in the old municipality building of this metropolis, said: There is an empty place for a museum in Shiraz, and the municipality museum can serve the historical functions of the Islamic Revolution and have a municipality.
He stated that the building of the Shiraz Municipality, based on the approval of the city’s Islamic Council, is appropriate and suitable for the municipal museum, and added: This project should be worked on and preserved as a national and international work. In the first step, we witnessed the change of the city administration building from this point to the Shahid Soleimani building according to the approval of the Islamic Council of the city, which the mayor of Shiraz metropolis succeeded in, and the municipality museum should be established according to the standards of cultural heritage and registered nationally and by UNESCO.

Shiraz city needs a new attraction for tourism

Regarding the transformation of this building into a museum, Mohammad Farrokhzadeh, Deputy Coordinator of Fars Governorate, told the Islamic Republic News Agency: When I was working in the city council, I submitted this proposal to the tourism commission. This proposal was approved in the commission and then in the public forum of the council, and it was decided that the mayor will be stationed in a new building built for the municipality, and the current building will be turned into a municipal museum due to its proximity to the old artillery square and the Zandiye complex.
The deputy of the coordination of pilgrims and tourism affairs of Fars Governorate continued: The municipality did not have a special museum in these years. Of course, in the past, a museum was set up for the municipality in Bagh Jahan Nama, but we faced some limitations in this place.
Farrukhzadeh added: More than a hundred years have passed since the life of the municipality building. Therefore, the records that existed in this building in the past years and the services created by the construction of this building in the city should remain for future generations.

Municipal museum functions

The former chairman of the Tourism and Pilgrimage Commission of the Islamic Council of Shiraz city stated: the emblem of international agreements, plaques of honor, records related to important correspondence and the performance of the municipality in various fields such as transportation, green space, urban furniture, issues related to the environment and an example of all the cases that It is considered as the duties of the municipality and is displayed in this museum.
Believing that the functions of civic culture will be depicted in this museum for future generations, the deputy governor of Fars said: “Part of the municipal units were already moved to the ship building, and the mayor’s office and his team have recently settled in the new building.” This was while the previous mayor was obliged to evacuate the municipality building by May 1401, but this was not achieved.

The Municipal Museum is an attraction for future generations

Stating that we are facing a dead end of attractions in Shiraz, Farrokhzadeh said: Creating a new attraction in Shiraz city by using the places we had in the past is very important for us. In recent years, no new attractions have been added to the city of Shiraz in the field of tourism. Of course, the city of Shiraz has recreational facilities, but there was a strong need for a new attraction in the field of tourism in this metropolis.
Pointing out that the Baladiye Museum can be a complementary attraction for future generations, he said: We have several museum plans in Shiraz that must be completed. The central museum of Shiraz city is one of the most important museums that should be given special attention for exploitation. There have been talks about the operation of this museum for years, but the completion of this museum has not yet been completed.

The necessity of completing half-finished museums in Fars

Farrokhzadeh said: The completion of the garden of the famous museum, which is located behind the Hafiziya, is a slow process and has not yet been completed. There are other museums scattered in the city that do not have a significant audience, and necessary measures should be taken to attract the audience.
The deputy governor of Fars continued: In addition to creating these attractions, the institutions in charge of tourism, such as the Shiraz Municipality and the Cultural Heritage Organization, should try to include museums and visiting them in the cultural portfolio of the household and be able to encourage people with incentives such as free visits on certain days. Throughout the year and taking advantage of educational tours, universities and offices should be drawn to these places and give prosperity to the museums and in this way also display the history of the city.
