The latest situation of the expansion of the old theater on Behesht Street

The expansion of the old Sangalaj theater is an issue that the directors of this hall have been pursuing for a long time, accompanied by a group of well-known artists with a theater background, and now the realization of this issue depends on the changes and developments of Tehran Municipality.
Theater News Base: For several years, various directors who have been relying on the management chair of Sangalaj Theater have been following the plan to expand this theater. To implement this plan, they have used the support of various artists, such as the survivors of Ezatullah Entezami, Mohammad Ali Keshavarz, Jamshid Mashayekhi and … artists of future generations. So far, various meetings have been held with the presence of various officials of the district municipality and the city council, whose office is also located near this theater, but this plan is still being pursued and has not yet been concluded.
Parisa Moqtada, the director of this old theater, says about her latest pursuits to expand it: “We have not met with the new friends of the municipality yet.” The municipal officials in our area have been changing for about a week, and in any case, the relocations are time consuming.
Referring to the birthday party of Sangalaj Theater on October 7, he recalls: “Fortunately, the spokesman of the city council and the then mayor of the region were also present in this program, and we talked to both of these friends.” Mr. Nadali welcomed this plan very much and asked for time to follow it up and inform us of the result, which is a very good thing.
Muqtada, who had previously spoken about documenting the Sangalaj Theater and collecting documents and its history, also explains about the measures taken in this regard: Fortunately, the Performing Arts Center is sensitive to collecting the history of all the halls. We started working on these and we went a long way.
He reports that over 85% of the theater has been documented, adding: “The other 15% includes using the personal albums of veteran artists and talking to them, because everything related to the theater has been collected, and at this stage, veteran artists have been helped.” We will take. In addition, the theater site is connected to the Iran Theater site, and these documentaries will also be available to those interested through this site.
On the 18th of October this year, Sangalaj Theater turned 56 years old.
The ancients of Tehran know this theater as “Shahrivar 25 Hall” which was once the place of activity of artists such as Abbas Javanmard, Ezatullah Entezami, Jafar Vali, Akbar Radi, Gholam Hossein Saedi, Bahram Beizai, Mahmoud Ostad Mohammad, Mahmoud Dolatabadi, Jamileh Sheikhi, Mohammad Parviz Fani Ali Keshavarz, Jamshid Mashayekhi, Ali Nasirian, Khosrow Shakibaei, Hadi Eslami and others.
The theater is currently hosting the latest performances of Nasser Avijeh’s play “Yalda Long Night” and will soon host the play “Uncle Vanya” rewritten by Arman Tiran and directed by Hossein Heidaripour.
