The Mercedes AMG SL43 was unveiled with a four-cylinder turbo engine

The Mercedes AMG SL43 will replace a twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a single-turbo four-cylinder engine. The big news for this version of the SL class is the M139 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is powered by an electric turbocharged engine.

This technology uses the same 48-volt electrical system that powers the generator starter. In short, a very small electric motor spins in the turbo until the exhaust gases come out, so Mercedes says that this engine increases engine efficiency.

What does this mean for the driver? The four-cylinder engine produces 381 horsepower at 6,750 rpm. In terms of torque, they will have 480 Nm, starting at 3250 rpm and holding up to 5000 rpm. The starter-generator system can also add an extra 14 hp for short periods, which technically makes the SL43 a hybrid version.

The engine is equipped with a nine-speed MCT gearbox that sends power only to the rear wheels; Mercedes says it will reach 0-100 km / h in 4.9 seconds, and overall, the SL will reach a base level of 275 km / h.
