The Mobile Importers Association demanded an increase in the customs tariff for the commercial import of the iPhone

The secretary of the Mobile Importers Association told Digiato that they have proposed a plan to increase the customs tariff for iPhone imports to the government. If this plan is approved and notified, the commercial import tariff of these phones will be 25% and according to the resolution of the parliament, it will be 50% for passenger imports.

Although more than 9 months have passed since the introduction of the latest iPhone model, the 14 series of Apple mobile phones has not entered Iran commercially. On the other hand, some MPs have always tried to ban iPhone imports.

In this regard, the Mobile Importers Association has suggested the government to increase the iPhone import tariff to take advantage of the iPhone import benefits. “Mehdi Abakari”, the secretary of the Mobile Importers Association, told Digiato about this:

“Currently, iPhone 13 refresh and repack models are entering the country and are not original iPhones. In order for the government to benefit from iPhone imports, we submitted a written request to the economic commission of the government and wrote to the informant (first vice president). Our request is that considering that the Parliament has left the government’s hands free in the budget bill of 1402 and the tariff for the import of phones above 600 dollars At least 15%, the government will increase the trade tariff for iPhone imports to 25%.

According to him, this plan is still under consideration and will be announced if the government approves.

But what is the reason for making such a proposal? Abgari explained in this regard: “In order to overcome the violations of Apple’s passenger goods, which are being smuggled in the market today, we proposed commercial import duties according to the parliament’s approval, which set the minimum tariff for phones above $600 at 15%. iPhone will be 25 percent.

According to the budget bill, the import of phones in other procedures will be calculated and received twice; That is, if the 25% tariff for iPhone commercial import is agreed, the passenger import tariff will be 50% as approved by the parliament.

This is while, based on what Digiato heard from mobile phone market operators, the commercial import tariff for mobile phones over $600 (excluding Apple phones) is set to double and reach 30%; A subject that Abakari rejected and called it a rumor.

It should be mentioned that during the review of the budget bill of 1402, the members of the parliament agreed with the government’s proposal and increased the import duty of foreign mobile phones above 600 dollars. 15 percent have determined As stated in the resolution of the parliament, this tariff is supposed to be used to support the development of microelectronics industry infrastructure.
