The new generation of Samsung SSD 990 Pro is coming

It seems that Samsung plans to unveil the next generation of its 990 Pro series SSDs in 1 and 2 TB capacities in the future with support for the PCIe Gen 5.0 interface. These products are now listed for certification on the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA) website. Stay with Lion Tech.
Unlike other manufacturers who mainly use Psiphon, Kioxia and Silicon Motion controllers for SSDs based on the PCIe Gen 5.0 interface, Samsung has taken a different path and will use its own dedicated solution for the new generation SSD 990 Pro.
The new generation of Samsung SSD 990 Pro is coming
According to information obtained by Harukaze5719, Samsung’s new SSDs are listed on the website of South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. In this section, two future Samsung products were seen with model numbers MZ-V9P1T0 and MZ-V9P2T0, the last digits of which probably refer to the capacity of 1 and 2 TB.
For reference, Samsung’s 980 Pro PCIe Gen 4.0 SSDs are labeled MZ-V8P1T00. As a result, it can be seen that the mentioned information is accurate and these model numbers most likely belong to the next generation SSD of the Korean giant.
It should be noted that Samsung has already released the first Gen 5 SSD based on PCIe interface for servers (model number PM1743). The reading speed (random) of this model reaches 13 GB/s and its maximum capacity reaches 15 TB. However, you should note that these specifications are for industrial use and we will certainly see lower speeds and capacities for the home user market.
Is Samsung going for a new heatsink?
It remains to be seen if Samsung will use a new cooling or thermal coating for NAND and DRAM chips. Because the next generation drivers are likely to have higher temperatures due to their higher speed. Of course, the company already made a custom 980 PRO SSD model with an industrial-grade heatsink for the PlayStation 5, so something similar might be coming to the next generation of the 990 PRO family.
Considering that the fifth generation of the Intel and AMD platform is the same, it is likely that these products will be introduced by the end of the year or during the CES 2022 event.
