Tara is the latest product of Iran-Khodro, which is a Peugeot 301 Facelift model and has been produced since 2020. This car is based on the IKP1 platform of Iran Khodro, which is a modified version of the Peugeot Citroen PF1 platform. As a result, the platform of this car is shared with Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008 and Citroen C-Elysées.

After Borjam, Iran Khodro and PSA planned to jointly produce Peugeot 301, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 508 and Peugeot 2008 under ICAP. After the return of sanctions by the United States, Peugeot left Iran and ICAP was suspended.

As a result, Iran facelifted the Peugeot 301 and the result was Tara, which was unveiled for the first time on February 20, 2017 on the sidelines of the cabinet meeting by Hassan Rouhani. Tara was officially unveiled by Irankhodro Company in Sapco. This car was pre-sold for the first time on July 9, 2016.
