Since 1990, in order to protect this unique work, with the construction of a brick square in front of the bridge, this possibility was removed, and now the bridge is only accessible on foot.

This magnificent bridge, which is a reminder of the old days of Iran, and its 1,700-year-old history attracts tourists, is considered one of the oldest bridges in the world, which was built by the Roman captives in Bandh Iran by the order of Shapur I after the victory in the war with Rome.

The old Dezful bridge was built in 263 AD on the Dez River and has always been the place of important developments such as wars and the emergence of civilizations; This bridge with a length of 370 meters is located in the center of Dezful and is the connecting point between the east and the west of the city, so that the crossing route to the cities of Shushtar and Andimeshk was.

This bridge, which has been renovated many times throughout history, was registered in the national register in 1310 and its image was printed on the national currency. In the building of this bridge, traces of Sasanian and Safavid period architecture can be seen.

The destruction of the middle spans of the bridge in the Pahlavi period caused 2 concrete spans to be built on it; The Sassanid bridge is made of Saroj stone and limestone, and although it has been rebuilt several times in different periods, most of the bridge’s foundations are from the Sassanid period.
