The Pakistani army reached out to the United States for financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund

According to the report of the International Economic Group of Fars News Agency, quoted by Reuters, informed Pakistani sources say that the commander of the country’s army has asked the Americans to use their leverage so that the International Monetary Fund can provide the financial resources needed by Pakistan as soon as possible.

Of course, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has confirmed the phone call between US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and General Qamar Javed Bajwa, but has not published its details.

It was earlier this month that the government of Pakistan and experts of the International Monetary Fund reached an agreement to release 1.17 billion dollars of financial resources allocated to Pakistan by this fund, but the International Monetary Fund is waiting for the approval of the board of directors to release this financial resource. The earliest meeting is in a few weeks.

Some informed sources say that Bajwa asked America to help speed up the process of releasing this money because Pakistan is facing a shortage of foreign exchange resources and the value of the country’s rupee is also falling.

A well-informed source said, “We cannot say what the Americans’ response was to this request, but we think it was a good move in such a critical situation.”
