The possibility of a quadrilateral meeting between Iran, Russia, Turkey and Syria in Moscow

According to Fars News Agency, a Russian diplomat announced the possibility of holding a quadrilateral meeting between Iranian, Russian, Turkish and Syrian officials in Moscow.

Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, said today (Monday) that the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Turkey and Syria will probably hold consultations in Moscow in early April.

“We haven’t agreed on anything yet, so there’s nothing to delay,” Bogdanov said earlier. We proceed based on the fact that the sooner the better. But our colleagues, Syrians, Turks and Iranians, have their own work plans and timetables. “While there is no specific date, we continue to coordinate.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that the four-way talks on Syria with the participation of Turkey, Russia, Iran and Syria at the level of deputy foreign ministers may be held in the coming days. According to him, this meeting, which was supposed to be held on March 15 and 16 (March 24 and 25), has been postponed to another time and it is likely to be held in the coming days.

This meeting will be held in Moscow in order to prepare the space for another meeting at the level of foreign ministers. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in a joint press conference last Wednesday with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian that a meeting will be held in the capital of Russia and the representatives of the foreign ministers of Syria, Turkey, Iran and Russia will participate in it.

Defense officials from Damascus and Ankara met late last year for the first time after cutting ties since 2011. The meeting was held on December 28 in Moscow and was attended by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Turkish Defense Minister Halusi Akar and Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas.
