The recent rains compensated for only 4.5% of the lack of rain/continuation of drought in the country

According to Moj News Agency, Ahad Tazifi, the head of the National Climate and Drought Crisis Management Center, answered the question of whether the recent rains have compensated for the lack of rainfall in the current water year. He stated: Before the rains of the past days, the amount of low rainfall was 28.5% below normal. After these torrential rains, the lack of rainfall decreased from 28.5% to 24%, which means only 4.5% of the lack of rainfall has been compensated.
He emphasized: Despite the recent rains, we are still in the condition of low rainfall and moderate to very severe and exceptional drought.
The head of the National Center for Climate and Drought Crisis Management cited an example and stated: In some provinces such as Kermanshah, Ilam, Kurdistan, Lorestan and most parts of Khuzestan, no rainfall has been recorded and severe drought prevails in these provinces. In Tehran, the rainfall is 34% below the normal level and it has not received more than a third of the normal rainfall. The condition of the dams is also not good at all, and up to 25% of the dams have water. This is not a good situation at all.
He added: these rains, in contrast to causing human and financial damage, do not change much in the rainfall conditions of the country, and still many areas are among the areas with low rainfall and are severely below normal.
The task in answering ISNA’s question that in which areas were the rainfalls more than normal? He said: In the summer season, there is usually rainfall in the southeast and the northern part of the country, but these rainfalls are more than normal in the southeast and less than normal in the northern part.
Referring to the temperature and precipitation situation during the next week, he said: During this period, the air temperature will increase and the rains will stop, and it will only occur in the form of showers and thunderstorms in the southern latitudes.
The head of the National Center for Climate and Drought Crisis Management said about the forecast of weather conditions until the end of August: On Saturday (August 15), a wave will pass from the north of the country and affect the coasts of the north and Azerbaijan. This wave brings rains in the form of showers and scattered thunder and lightning in the northwest of the country and Alborz heights on Saturday night to Monday (August 15-17). These rains are very minor and not very intense and are predicted only in some areas such as the heights of Alborz, the northern part of the country and Azerbaijan.
He added: During the next week, slight rains are expected in the southern coasts of the country, the northern Persian Gulf and the northern strip of the country, and the rest of the places will be without rains, after that, even the northern coasts of the country will receive less rain.
At the end of the task, he stated: In general, the rains are partial and until the end of August, the rains will decrease and the temperature will increase.
