The resignation of Majid Rajabi, an architect, from the house of artists who are not

According to the Fars News Agency’s Visual Arts Reporter, Majid Rajabi Memar, CEO of the Artists’ House, confirmed the news of his resignation. Majid Rajabi Memar has been working as the managing director of the Iranian Artists ‘House since 2015, after being elected by the Supreme Council of the Iranian Artists’ House, after Majid Sarsangi.

What is left of the artists’ house?

The House of Iranian Artists is located on Iranshahr Street in Tehran. This cultural and artistic complex works in the fields of theater, music, cinema, painting, graphic design, sculpture, calligraphy, poetry and architecture. It was inaugurated in 1998 by a group of first-rate artists of the country and gradually opened its place in the country’s cultural square to the point that it became a meeting place for young artists, but the movement did not go in the same direction. Coffee shops, bookstores, and craft stores have nothing left in the minds of art audiences.

In the eighties, holding an exhibition, performing a theater, showing a film, etc. in the house of artists could be considered as an acceptable record for young artists. But today, other visual artists (painting, photography, sculpture, graphics, illustration, etc.) are less willing to collaborate with the galleries of the Artists ‘House, the Cinematheque of the Artists’ House (which is one of the most important parts of this cultural place and gathers cinema lovers for years). He has not been very popular with art audiences for a long time, and Iranshahr Theater, which was once one of the best theaters in the country, went on the path of commercializing art and became the pioneer of luxury theater. In general, only a lifeless body remains from the house of artists.

The House of Artists is an important place / space because it can capture and regulate the pulse of the country’s art market as it wishes. The Artists’ House is a breathing space commercialized in Tehran, so it can be a “home” encouragement as a support for young artists; But the policies that governed it caused the monetization to overshadow it year by year and it gradually lost its position.

An examination of the activities of the House of Artists over the past few years shows that this cultural and artistic center has lost its symbolic status and is no longer so important in the country’s cultural and artistic field, and it has lost its prestige decades ago.

The House of Artists, which could have been a pioneer in the field of art, focused on capitalism and commercialization, distancing itself from its institutional mission and failing to make full use of its many capacities.

It seems that the house of artists should return to its true mission and have a new review of the desired values.
