The resumption of the Vienna nuclear talks is subject to Washington’s decision – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr News Agency, Tehran Times newspaper In an editorial today, he wrote that the current state of negotiations on lifting the sanctions shows that the ball is in Washington’s court and that without a White House political decision, an agreement would be far from expected.

The visit of Enrique Mora, the EU’s chief negotiator in the Vienna talks, to Tehran on May 10 at the initiative of Joseph Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, was hailed as the latest attempt to revive the agreement. While outlining the goals of the meeting, Borrell described Mora’s trip to Tehran as a way out of the deadlock.

According to the EU foreign policy chief, Europe has prepared a package of proposals according to which the United States agrees to remove the name of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from its blacklist, but maintains sanctions against the organization.

Hadi Afghahi, a former Iranian diplomat, described Mora’s visit to Tehran as containing two messages: Europe’s willingness to import energy from Iran amid the conflict in Ukraine and proposals to determine the status of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to Afqahi, Mora made proposals from the United States, including the lifting of sanctions on some Iranian institutions and companies, but at the same time insisted that the Revolutionary Guards and some of its figures remain on the US blacklist. There is another important paragraph in the list proposed by the American side, which asked Iran not to put revenge for the assassination of Sardar Soleimani on the agenda.

Evidence suggests that US inaction in the negotiations restores the initiative to Iran. Ali Hashem, a British-based journalist, said in a report that Tehran had presented Mora with new ideas that went beyond the proposal and were intended to break the deadlock. According to this journalist, the issue of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is not central to the new proposal. Not that it has been removed, but there are issues with more priorities in this proposed package.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a telephone conversation with the EU foreign policy chief, thanked Borrell for his constructive efforts to negotiate the lifting of sanctions, and stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s seriousness in reaching a strong and lasting agreement in Vienna. Tehran has the goodwill and determination to reach an agreement.

The EU foreign policy chief also stressed Iran’s initiative in the lifting of sanctions talks, saying “we are on a new path to continuing the talks and focusing on offering solutions.” According to the European diplomat, the European Union is working to bring the views of Tehran and Washington closer.
