The return of the creator of “Salvation in Shawsheng” to the world of filmmaking

According to Fars Cinema Reporter, Darabont is negotiating with Netflix to direct two episodes of the final season of the popular series “Strange Things” if they agree.
Filming for the eight-episode final season of the popular Netflix series will begin in the coming weeks.
In 1994, this 64-year-old filmmaker made his first feature film, “Salvation in Shawsheng”, and to date, only three more films, “Green Path” in 1999, “Majestic” in 2001 and “The Fog” in 2007. During the last fifteen years, Darabont has directed only a few episodes of the series “Shield”, “The Walking Dead” and “Criminal City”.
After leaving The Walking Dead in 2011, he only worked as a script consultant on several projects, and Stranger Things could be the perfect vehicle for his return to the stage.
Darabont recently confirmed in an interview that he is interested in making several projects, but the unwillingness of producers and studios to finance his scripts has become an obstacle. He currently owns the rights to two Stephen King stories, The Long Walk and The Monkey.
Darabont planned to shoot two films, “Law Abiding Citizen” in 2009 and “The Huntsman: Winter War” in 2014, but withdrew from both projects due to disagreements with the producers.
He also wrote a screenplay centered on the American Civil War based on a text by Stanley Kubrick and historian Shelby Foote. Darabont believes that the said script is “the best thing” he has ever written, but no studio is willing to invest in it; This caused the filmmaker to announce his retirement in 2021.
