The Security Council report does not accuse Iran of sending drones to Russia

According to the report of the international group of Fars news agency, the American website “Axios” claimed that Tehran was not accused of sending weapons to Russia in the report to be submitted to the UN Security Council about Iran’s adherence to the provisions of the JCPOA.

According to Axios, Russia has tried to dissuade UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres from ordering an investigation into the claims of using Iranian drones in the Ukraine war, contrary to the efforts of Western countries. According to Axios, these efforts have been successful for now, and Guterres has not issued a definitive statement in this regard in the aforementioned report.

In the said report, Guterres has provided detailed explanations about the letters received from the representatives of the United States, France, Germany, England and Ukraine. These countries have claimed that Iran has sent drones to Russia in an action “contrary to Security Council Resolution 2231”.

Guterres has also received written letters from the representatives of Iran and Russia, which have denied and emphasized the aforementioned claims, even if these drones were supplied, Iran’s action was not a violation of the Security Council resolution.

In Resolution 2231, which was approved by the Security Council in 2015 to approve the JCPOA nuclear agreement, it is stated that until October 2023, countries are not allowed to receive ballistic missiles with a range of more than 300 km and a warhead heavier than 500 km.

America and European powers claim that this ban also includes Iranian drones. Iran and Russia have made this claim.

Contrary to the request of Western countries, Guterres did not issue a license to conduct research on this issue, and as a result, this report did not reach any definitive conclusions regarding the issue of drones.
