The Serbian army is on full alert on the border with Kosovo

According to Fars News Agency, the National Security Council of Serbia announced on Saturday that the country’s armed forces will remain on the highest level of combat readiness until further notice due to the violence against Serbs in Kosovo.
According to the news agencyAnatoliaThe decision came after Serbia ordered its army to advance to the border with Kosovo on Friday.
Kosovo has a significant Serb population, especially in the north, near the border with Serbia. Most of the member states of the United Nations, including the United States, England, France, Germany, and Turkey, recognized Kosovo as a separate country after it declared independence from Serbia in 2008. However, Serbia still considers it as its territory.
The majority-Albanian region of Kosovo declared independence after the 1998-1999 war with the Serbian government, but Belgrade only allowed them autonomy. About 50,000 Serbs live in northern Kosovo who do not accept the government based in Pristina or the autonomous status of this region.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also asked the army and security forces to be ready for battle. Vucic’s office in Belgrade said in a statement: “At the meeting of the National Security Council, all necessary security activities to strengthen the defense capacity of the Republic of Serbia were agreed upon.”
According to the National Security Council of Serbia, EU agents and NATO forces in Kosovo failed to do their work in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Komanovo technical-military agreement.
The statement of the National Security Council of Serbia states: “The Republic of Serbia will be resolute and unwavering in protecting its people.”
Tensions between Serbia and Kosovo recently rose again when the Kosovo government announced that Serbian identity documents and car plates would no longer be valid on Kosovo territory. Serbia has implemented similar measures for Kosovo citizens entering Serbia for the past 10 years (more details).
