The shadow of the lack of electricity still hangs over Iraq’s economy

According to the International Economic Group of Fars News Agency, quoted by MEES, the demand for electricity in Iraq continues to increase and the infrastructure of the power distribution network in this country is still facing a serious challenge in meeting the needs of the people and they are working with more capacity.

The Iraqi government predicted that the demand for electricity in this country will increase by 1,400 megawatts compared to last year and reach 34,180 megawatts. Iraq will probably set a new record in electricity consumption this year.

In addition to the lack of power generation, the disconnection of a power transmission line has reduced the power generation and distribution capacity in Basra province by 3500 megawatts.

The documents of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity indicate that the electricity demand in this country has increased by 8.8% compared to last year and reached 19,810 megawatts. Of course, Iraq’s electricity production capacity has also increased from 22,000 MW to 23,400 MW, according to the ministry’s report.

However, reaching this figure is still considered a serious challenge for Iraq. The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has predicted that the difference between production capacity and electricity demand in this country will reach 10,800 megawatts in the summer, which is 1,800 megawatts more than last year.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity said; Considering the loss of power in the distribution network, this figure will reach 12,200 megawatts.
