The start of winter tourism in Austria with a growth of 5% compared to last year

According to Aria’s heritage report, according to the reports of the country’s official statistics agency (Statistik Austria), Austria recorded 5.15 million nights of stay in hotels, guesthouses and hotel apartments in November this year. Such a figure shows a 5.4% increase compared to the same month last year, when the number of overnight stays was 4.9 million.
The number of overnight stays by non-resident guests (foreign tourists) in this country increased by 5.7% to nearly three million, while the number of overnight stays by resident guests (domestic tourists) increased by 4.9% to 2.15 million. In addition, according to the same source, the number of incoming tourists recorded a significant increase (9.3 percent), reaching a total of more than two million tourists in November 2023.
Based on the country of origin, the highest number of overnight stays in Austria was for German tourists, followed by Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Italy, the United States of America, Poland, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
Commenting on the increase, Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics Austria, called it a successful start to the winter season in Austria.
Meanwhile, from the beginning of 2023 to the end of November of this year, Austria has had nearly 140 million overnight stays, which is 10.8% more than the same period last year and 2.1% more than the entire previous year.
Of these, more than 102 million overnight stays were recorded by guests from abroad, while Austrian guests recorded around 37 million overnight stays in their own country.
Last month, Austria recorded 26 million visitors and was ranked as the world’s 10th most visited destination in 2022 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
